Some days will just suck

I'm all about using the filters of love and abundance and seeing life through the eyes of possibility. However. I'm also all about getting real and not fighting with reality. I don't try to change things into something they're not. 

 

In reality, some days in our recovery journey will just suck. 

 

It's OK to be OK with that. When days suck, you don't have to fix them. You don't have to create artificial sunshine or convince yourself that things are perfect. Let it rain. It doesn't have to mean anything deeper than that. For these days, I use a mantra: This, too, shall pass

 

Sucky days are beautiful opportunities to practice new ways of sitting in our emotions. Ramp up your self-compassion. Practice letting go of what you can't control. Re-shift your day's priorities. Dive head first into self-care. Be with yourself. The world can wait. 

 

The sweetness of "laissezz-faire" (letting things be what they are) is a practice that is often available in recocery. The less you fight the sucky days, the more you'll be able to show up for yourself. Remember this the next time you have a sucky day: It will be hard, and then it'll go away. You can do this.
